At GameOn Malta, we believe in the power of board games to bring people together, spark creativity, and teach valuable skills—all while having a ton of fun. But how did this project come to life? Let us take you behind the scenes.
This initiative is part of an Erasmus+ project between Projekta Malta and a group of enthusiastic youngsters from Czechia, under the guidance of Veronika Liotard. For some of us, board games were a huge part of our upbringing. A number of our core childhood memories involve quality family time spent around a table, laughing, strategising, and bonding over games.

Last year, Projekta Malta conducted a survey that revealed something eye-opening: 50% of teen respondents said they spend too much time on social media, lack face-to-face interaction, and miss quality time with friends. This got us thinking—how can we bring people together in a meaningful way?
Through our youth activities, we introduced board games and discovered something amazing. While games like Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Monopoly, and Chess are well-known in Malta, many other fantastic board games are still under the radar. When we introduced our youngsters to a wider variety of games, they absolutely loved it—and asked for more! That’s when the idea for GameOn Malta was born.
We know the value of board games, and we want to share it with everyone. Not only are they a fantastic way to bring families and friends together, but they’re also powerful tools for learning and improving skills like problem-solving, thinking ahead, and communication. Board games can do all that—and so much more!
Our Mission: Sharing the Joy of Board Games

Our project is designed to benefit many others beyond just our organisations or the youngsters involved. It was purposely created to reach various stakeholders, including schools, youth organisations, and other youth-oriented groups. We want to share our newly built board game collection and the benefits of board games with as many people as possible.
But that’s not all—this project goes beyond just playing games. We’re also exploring how AI tools and digital skills can be applied to game design. Through blog posts and hands-on sessions, we’ll learn how to use technology to create, adapt, and enhance board games, showing how digital skills can be fun, creative, and practical in everyday life.
